Celebrate 10 Years of Pizza Tradition in Las Vegas, NV (1997-2006)

International Pizza Expo Las Vegas, NV, March 14-16, 2006
During the show a seminar on March 15, 2006, by seminar speaker Aurelio Giordano (v. source n. 2).

Source (1)
Pizza’s history in America began in New York City in 1904 with Lombardi’s Pizza on Spring Street by the neapolitan Gennaro Lombardi country’s first historic pizzeria, followed by the new pages of Totonno’s by Anthony Pero, John’s Pizza by John Sasso and so forth with the guys who tracked New York the Pizza capital of the world.
Gennaro Lombardi earned legendary status among pizza enthusiasts before it closed its doors in 1984, ten years later reopened a block down the same Spring Street at # 32.
Totonno’s in Coney Island was a Gennaro Lombardi’s paesan named Anthony Pero who worked for him for 20 years. Present co-owner of Totonno’s, located on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side, Larry Goldberg said "Anthony Pero was a baker and when he came to New York he convinced Gennaro to let him make pizza”.
Another Lombardi’s veteran was John Sasso who opened John’s Pizza on Bleecker Street in 1929, Bob Vittoria, the pizzeria’s current majority owner said “It was the middle of the Depression, John came here from Lombardi’s and ran the place until about 1953, when his nephews, Augustine “Chubby” Vesce and Joe Vesce, purchased the restaurant from him. Chubby and Joe were my uncles. They got out about 1980, and Peter Castellotti, Sr. and Rose Vesce (Chubby’s wife) became the shareholders, this place has been in our family since 1929, and I’ve worked here since 1965.” (quotations taken from PMQ web site).
09) La Valle del Pianto è un percorso obbligatorio in Emigrazione, una via del cuore, un itinerario verso le proprie radici spirituali a propria insaputa, per poter continuare con forza e speranza il cammino dell’esistenza quotidiana;
10) Il percorso dell’emigrante, come recita un antico canto tedesco, è “… la scia del suo destino che ha come meta il cielo…”. (Ricordiamo che cielo deriva dal latino “coelo”, ossia nascosto, che non si vede);
11) Il senso dell’Emigrazione sembra calzare molto -da questo punto di vista- con i versi di una lirica di un sacerdote che così recita: “… Anima mia, canta e cammina. E anche tu, o fedele di chissà quale fede; oppure tu, uomo di nessuna fede: camminiamo insieme! …”;
12) Nel Catechismo della Chiesa Cattolica n. 307 è detto “… gli uomini possono entrare … nel piano divino… anche con le loro sofferenze…”;
13) Riflettiamo sul fatto che l’uomo ha maturato il proprio proposito per emigrare con tale animo che lo porta nei luoghi di destinazione, dove incontra fratelli e sorelle a cui porta in dono l’esempio della propria fede, speranza e carità, affinché tutti insieme possano arricchirsi della mutua edificazione;
14) Il Rientro / La Riconciliazione:
Gli emigranti tornando alle loro case vorrebbero vivere in conformità alla propria vocazione, in virtù della quale sono stirpe eletta, Nazione Santa, popolo che Dio si è acquistato;
15) L’Emigrazione è costituita da un popolo fra tutte le nazioni dedito alle opere buone, che riunisce fratelli dispersi in una sola anima;
16) La veggente Caterina Labouré il 27 novembre 1830 riceve (per la seconda volta) l’apparizione della Madonna Immacolata che le affida il compito di coniare la Medaglia Miracolosa e di diffonderla affinché un giorno tutti gli abitanti del mondo possano averla;
17) Il Sacro Romano impero di Carlo Magno. Presentazione della monografia. Perché “Sacro”.
